Accredited Employer Work Visa
The Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) has been introduced by New Zealand Immigration in 2022. With the introduction of the Accredited Employer Work Visa policy, significant changes to the temporary work visa program have been announced.
What is the Accredited Employer Work Visa?
The new Accredited Employer Work Visa is a temporary work visa leading to permanent residence status. A main objective is to make it easier for business to fill genuine skill shortages with overseas workers and migrants.
The new Accredited Employer Work Visa has replaced 6 temporary visa categories including:
- Talent Accredited Employer Work Visa ,
- Long Term Skill Shortage List Work Visa,
- Silver Fern Job Search Visa,
- Silver Fern Practical Experience Visa,
- Essential Skills visa,
- Essential Skills Approval in Principal visa.
Some of the above temporary visa categories are closed for new visa applicants.
It is important to note that visa categories including partnership visas, working holiday visas and student visas with work rights are not covered by the (AEWV) policy.
What is the 3-check system?
The so called 3-check system is part of the Accredited Employer Work Visa policy. It is a three step process
- Employer check: The employer must be accredited to hire a migrant as a worker from overseas. Employers can apply for standard accreditation and high-volume accreditation (for six or more workers on AEWVs)
- Job check: This involves that the employer pays the market rate. A Labour Market Test is required.
- Migrant check: The visa applicant must meet health and character requirements and have skills and experience in relation to the job check.
